Galerie du Dourven

Created in 1992, the Galerie du Dourven is a creative and exhibition space dedicated to contemporary art. It is located in a zone classified as a Sensitive Natural Area covering 16 hectares, on the Trédrez-Locquémeau (Côtes d'Armor) coastline, at the mouth of the Bay of Lannion. Echoing this remarkable natural setting, the exhibitions held showcase projects by current French and international visual artists (all techniques included) focusing on the notion of landscape.

The Galerie du Dourven is a cultural facility of the Lannion-Trégor conurbation authority.

Each year, it organises between three and four residency projects (two for established artists, one for an emerging artist and one for an artist invited to take part in a residency programme in a school). Two of these residencies culminate in a three-month solo exhibition in the exhibition space.
The Galerie du Dourven provides residents with a workspace, an exhibition space (the Galerie du Dourven), a grant to cover artists’ fees, a grant to cover production costs and artistic support from the site manager. Artists’ research work leads to the production of new and unique works, in keeping with the theme of landscape, which is at the heart of the Galerie's artistic programme.

WHAT’S INCLUDED

Artists participating in the creative residency leading to an exhibition are provided with:

Financial means:
— a residency grant of €1850;
— payment of travel expenses;
— a budget of €5,000 to cover production costs for a solo exhibition;
— a budget of €1,500 to cover exhibition rights for a solo exhibition.

Material and human resources:
— accommodation: a room in the flat adjoining the Galerie du Dourven, as well as free access to the communal areas of the house (kitchen, bathroom, living room);
— a workspace within the accommodation and a technical room with basic equipment and tools. When the exhibition space is available, it can also be used as a workspace. The site does not have a production workshop for making large volume pieces. Another workshop space can be found from time to time, depending on the project requirements;
— storage space for exhibition materials before the exhibition, if necessary;
— artistic support and networking provided by the site manager;
— an artworks registrar to set up and take down the exhibition;
— some projects may benefit from outside help (technical services, local businesses, associations) for their production or transport.

DURATION

The residency programme lasts for one month on average. Artists can decide to spend a continuous period of time in residency or divide up the time. The residency ends with an exhibition at the Galerie du Dourven.

SELECTION PROCESS

The structure proceeds by invitation and does not accept applications.

CONSIDERATION FOR RESIDENTS' FAMILY LIFE

Resident artists are free to bring one or more family members with them, provided that the size and availability of the accommodation permit. The residency schedule may be adapted as required, in advance and in consultation with the site manager.
The costs of hosting other people (apart from utilities) and childcare are not covered by the programme.

RESIDENTS' COMMITMENTS

Artists must comply with the schedule drawn up with them at the beginning of the residency. Any change of date must be agreed in advance with the site manager.
As the Dourven park is geographically isolated, it is asked that artists have a vehicle so that they can travel independently.
They are also asked to be open to meeting the public.

ACTIONS AIMED AT THE PUBLIC

In agreement with the artist, meetings and presentations of the work produced during the residency may be organised for educational purposes.
Any practical artistic workshops for young people or adults provided by the artist are paid separately at a rate of €60/hour.
